Microneedling, Skin Care

Here are Important After-Care Micro Needling Tips You Should Never Forget

Skin rejuvenation does not stop after an in-clinic microneedling session. Apart from the fact that treatment usually takes 8 to 12 weeks, requiring multiple microneedling sessions, patients also need to learn post-care treatment and management interventions to ensure the best results over time.

Microneedling maintenance may involve the use of Dermapen HOME, at least once weekly and the application of Dp Dermaceuticals skincare products that complement the development of collagen and elastin.

Here are some after-care and maintenance tips that you need to follow while on microneedling treatment.

Follow the orders from your Authorised Treatment Provider

Skin inflammation and redness subside 24 to 48 hours after microneedling treatment. You can resume your normal activities a few hours after your session. In addition, using skincare products, cosmetics, and even sunscreen should be avoided a day or two after treatment. Non-comedogenic products that are recommended by a practitioner may be used. However, make sure to keep your face bare for up to 48 hours to ensure you don’t experience any irritation or side effects.

Stay away from the sun

Sunlight exposure is not good for people whose skin is still healing from a microneedling procedure. As pores remain open a few hours to a few days after skin needling, the skin is likely to experience damage under prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Experts recommend using sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher to ensure that you don’t end up sunburnt or develop skin irritation altogether.

Be gentle on your skin

After a microneedling session, you need to be extra gentle on your skin. If you have an existing skin care routine or were required to undergo a new one, follow the instructions to the letter to avoid side effects or complications in the long haul.

Here are some post-care routines for microneedling:

  • Do not use an alcohol-based toner and other skin products to avoid skin irritation.
  • Do not use products that contain peeling ingredients such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and TCA acid.
  • Skin products containing hydroquinone should be avoided at all costs
  • Do not schedule an in-clinic treatment immediately after microneedling. Performing laser peels, microdermabrasion, and laser therapy are contraindicated
if your skin is still healing from microneedling punctures.
